My Dream Holiday (essay)

I like to travel. Every year I visit the seaside of Montenegro. My biggest wish is to see Durmitor.

The National Park Durmitor is located at the north-east of Montenegro. It includes the mass of Durmitor, the canyons of the Tara, Sušica and Draga rivers and the higher part of the canyon plateau Komarnica, covering the area of 39,000ha.

It was established in 1952 as a national park and was described twice in the World Heritage List, in 1977 the River Tara was described as a UNESCO reserve and in 1980 both the Tara and Durmitor were described as the world natural heritage.

A part of the National Park Durmitor is also the River Tara Canyon, 80km long, 1,300m deep, the second largest in the world, after the Grand Canyon in Colorado, USA.

A special feature of the landscape is the glacier lakes, called by the people "gorske oči" ('the eyes of the mountain'). The largest and the most beautiful one is Crno jezero (Black Lake).

Within the park, there is also a number of cultural monuments, from ancient times till present: fortresses, watchtowers, bridges and monasteries.

Tourism centre of the National Park is Žabljak, the highest town in the Balkans (1,450 metres above the sea level).

I am sure I will see this beautiful place one day.
