HIPPO International Competition

My gifted English language students in Class 5, 18 of them, took part in the 1st English language competition on 16 March 2013. They tried to do their best in HIPPO 1 category. The exam consisted of 3 parts: reading (multiple choice with 40 questions), listening (multiple choice with 20 questions) and writing (picture description in 60 words).

The HIPPO competition was organised by GLOBAL INPUT – LCCI IQ Reps for Slovenia and Balkans and open to all 10 - 19-year-old students from Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Croatia, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

It's very hot and sunny here in Australia. Mum is sunbathing. Dad is swimming and drinking lemonade. My new friends are surfing, playing beach volleyball and eating an ice cream. I am playing table tennis and eating a pancake. It's lots of fun.

Dear Grandma,

We arrived in Budva, the old town in Montenegro. We're having a beautiful time here. 

The hotel's great. We're staying on the fourth floor. 

The weather's lovely, hot and sunny. Dad's fishing at the moment, Minja's swimming and Mum's sunbathing. 

There are lots of shops here. Mum can't wait to go shopping. 

In the evening we walk in the central streets. There are lots of restaurants and cafes. I'm going to taste great local food. 

I love Budva.

When I was 7...

As a warm up for the revision of the past simple, I asked my pupils to finish the sentences: When I was 7 I had a ... . I didn't have a ... . I couldn't ..., but I could ... . My favourite food was ... . My favourite things were ... . 

When I was 7 I had a bike. I didn't have a toy plane. I couldn't swim, but I could ride a bike. My favourite food was chicken. My favourite things were my dog and my toys.

Pen Friends

Since my pupils, especially those younger ones, adore drawing and fun activities, I've decided to join Cambridge English Penfriends and help them connect with pupils around the world through such activities. I hope they'll have fun making new friends and develop their English language skills along the way.
