Think of your birthday party last year. How did you celebrate it? What did you do? What did you eat or drink? Did you enjoy it?

My birthday party last year was great. We decorated the house with balloons. My mum made a beautiful birthday cake. There were lots of children and people. We played games on my DVD player. We danced too. We drank Cola and ate sweets. My friends brought me lots of gifts. My biggest present was a parrot. His name is Žika. I love him. I wore my favourite clothes, jeans and a T-shirt. We all had lots of fun. I enjoyed my birthday party a lot.

Mickey Mouse's house (chant)

As a warm up, we chanted a well-known chant called 'Point to the window'.

Then, I asked my pupils to imagine and draw a house, with a door, windows and a roof, of course. Since there are still some pupils who have difficulty with some colours, I told everyone to colour the windows blue, the door - green, the roof - red and the walls - yellow. By the way, they are familiar with the Serbian song about a yellow house at the end of a village, thus my choice.

Finally, I told them that the house in front of them is Mickey Mouse's house. They were very pleased. Then, we learned a new chant:

Mickey Mouse has a little house,
The roof is red,
The door is green,
Knock, knock, please, come in.
a group of my class I2
After that, we were ready to listen to a new episode in our coursebooks and find out where each character was.

Walking around London

The first virtual walk around London with my 7-year-olds was a lot of fun, judging by their comments and sighs at the end of the lesson.

As a warm up, we sang the 'Wheels on the Bus' song and then revised the means of transport. We went through all our transport flashcards.

After that I asked them to draw a bus, a car, a boat, a horse and a lion and explained that we can see all these things in London.

So, our journey could start. We watched a short film and their task was to pay attention to the colours of the things drawn in their notebooks. We checked everything and talked a bit more about the things in the film. It's needless to say that every time they saw something they were familiar with they called it out (motorbike, bike, lorry...).

We also visited Buckingham Palace and watched the parade, saw the soldiers with their horses, walked along the River Thames and heard Big Ben ringing.

Almost at the end of the lesson, I showed them a well-known singing game called 'London Bridge is Falling Down' (Two pairs of players = the bridge hold hands and make an arch with their arms while the others pass through. At the song's end, the bridge falls down to "catch" players who then become another bridge).

At the gallery

My youngest pupils adore drawing and are very proud to show their masterpieces. That is why I always ask them to come to the front and show us the drawings, but I also encourage them to describe their drawings in a few words. Then, we usually make a sort of an exhibition.

Easter Bunny Chant

This is a cute chant for very young learners. Pupils listen, repeat line by line and then say it as a class. Need I say that miming is a must?

Watch my class I5 and give it a go. Here are the lines:

I'm an Easter Bunny.
I've got two long ears.
I've got two pink eyes.
I've got a small mouth.
I can wiggle one ear.
I can wiggle the other.
Hop, hop, Easter Bunny, hop to your mother.
Hop, hop, Easter Bunny, hop to your mother.
