All my 11-year-olds who took part in the 1st HIPPO International Competition in English Language received their certificates of participation:
First of all, I'd like to welcome you to my blog. My intention's to make it a place for cherishing great memories of working with school children. Here you'll find some tips, projects done by my pupils, their essays and poems, video clips (I don't know if it's me, but my pupils really enjoy singing), and things that can be interesting and useful.

Making a cake
As usual, we started the lesson with a song. This time it was the one about the food we like or don't like.
Then we played the game 'I spy with my little eye...' with the food poster.
After that, I asked my pupils if they use any of the things on the poster to make a cake, if they can make a cake, what their favourite one was...
We watched a video with two children, a brother and a sister, making a cake. Then I asked my 7-year-olds to tell me which ingredients the children used. Some of those were new words, so they used their mother tongue and I repeated in English.
Of course, they drew all 5 ingredients (chocolate, eggs, butter, flour and sugar). We checked the colours of each. We watched the same video again, but this time we paid attention to the order, what the children put first in a bowl, what they added, mixed... We checked everything together with the help of some hand-drawn flashcards.

Their next task was to draw and decorate their own cake.
After that we did some follow-up activities on the DVD, listened to a story and finished the lesson with a song. It was a lot of fun.

My English Book (stories)
I asked my older pupils who enjoy creative writing to write a story or a poem for the writing contest and here are their products:
A Herobrine Sighting
It was night and I was playing my favourite game - Mine craft. I was building a house when all of a sudden I saw a red stone on the top of the mountain. So I decided to climb there and get a closer look.
But, when I got to the top, there was no sign of the stone. Instead, I saw one at the bottom and the hole next to it. I quickly ran down the mountain and jumped into the hole.
A moment later I found myself in a cave. Suddenly, I saw awful white eyes staring at me. I was very scared. I started running away, but those eyes followed me.
All of a sudden a Herobrine got me. I do not remember what happened next.

A Hallowe'en Story
Two brothers lived near an old house. There were some strange noises in the house. Every night they could hear big wooden windows open and shut by themselves. They could see a white smoke and shadows. There were lots of ghosts in that house. They were running up and down the stairs. They were laughing very loud. It was a scary house. The brothers decided to run away from it.

Alone in the dark
There's a story nobody knows, except my friend and me.
Last year when we were going home from school, we saw a house we had never seen before. My friend decided to go inside. I followed her.
We entered a big room with black walls. There was blood on the floor and the bed, too. I was very scared. I went back to the front door, but my friend was still in the centre. Suddenly, the front door closed very hard by itself. I ran to my friend and faced another door.
I found myself in a dark hall, where there was so much blood, too. I started screaming. Between us, there was just one door, but I felt like we were miles away. She talked with me, but I could not understand a word.
Then I heard an unknown voice saying that we would never leave the house.
At that moment, I saw an axe in the corner of the room and hit the front door very hard with it. That was how we escaped.
The next day, on the place where the scary house was, there was a huge hall.

My English Book (poems)
I asked my older pupils who enjoy creative writing to write a story or a poem for the writing contest and here are their products:
VIOLET
In early spring
The scent expands the world
When love like the sun warms us
Violet in the grass is laughing.
With its blue hat hanging
Looking so important
No one can resist it
It is so pretty.

RAIN
Raindrops are falling
The joy is ours
We can easily breathe
The rain is washing off the dust
To our content
A pond here and there
Wet steps
Soul pure
It rained all night
In my eye the whole town is shining
Do you like rain
Perhaps more than me
It is a simple question
Nemanja is asking
The one who wants to know everything
The answer is due tomorrow

PINK KITTEN
My pink kitten
loves to jump
from branch to branch,
and knows how to grab
a banana from a monkey.
She loves to purr and cuddle,
rolls a ball down the path happily.
She's a real naughty
when she should - she does not want to sleep.
She wanders at night
and asks for nobody's permission.
When she walks down the street
she waves her paw at everyone.
Everyone loves her
because she goes to cat school all dressed up.
She loves to wear beautiful hats,
to tie colourful ribbons
and to choose the most beautiful handbags.
When I cuddle my pink kitten
she jumps like a ballet dancer,
and suddenly purrs cutely
from Monday to Wednesday.
