Following a model, my Class 3 pupils have come up with these verses to describe their favourite seasons and the activities they like doing then:

My Disney Friends

My Class 2 pupils have recently taken part in Pearson's contest. Inspired by our talk about emotions, they drew their favourite Disney characters in different situations, and the most creative ones received their prizes - Toy Story readers.

But, that's not all - the organisers have decided to send us Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck hand puppets, together with song, festival and story packs! You can imagine my pupils' excitement when I told them Mickey and Donald are here to stay!

And, what better way to enjoy the books than to read them with friends, and puppets, of course!

Greetings from...

Imagine that you're on holidays. Write a postcard to your friend. Use 50 - 60 words.

P1: Where are you writing from? Where are you staying?
P2: What's the weather like? What are you wearing?
P3: What are you doing now? Who's with you? What are they doing?
P4: What are you going to do next? Where are you going to go? What are you going to see?

Remember to start your postcard with: Hi / Hello / Dear (your friend's name) and end it with: See you soon / Love, (your name)!

Hi, Ashley,
Greetings from Paris!
The weather is hot and sunny, so don't forget to bring your summer clothes.
Every day, my family and I go sightseeing. Yesterday, we went on a tour of Paris. It was fantastic!
Right now we're at the mall. I'm getting bubble tea. Ana is with me. Mum, dad and Sladja are at the café.
Tomorrow we're going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. I can't wait!
See you soon,
Ivana

Hi, Nina,
My parents and I are having a great time here in Kalamitsi, Greece.
We're staying in a nice hotel next to the beach.
I have a lot of fun every day.
The weather is really hot and sunny. I swim every day.
In the evenings, I have dinner and then go for a walk.
Right now, I am sitting on the beach and drinking cocktail.
Let's meet when I get back.

Our Town

This is a lovely song about different places in a town and it's great for an introduction, warm-up or revision:

Our town's got a lot of great things.
It's got a playground,
With a slide and some swings.
Our town is a great place to be.
It's got a lot of shops,
For you and for me.

Our town! Come to our town.
Our town! Come on, everyone.
Our town! Come to our town.
Our town! Come and have some fun.

Our town is a great place to stay.
It's got a park,
Where we can play all day.
Our town's got a nice swimming pool.
Jump into the water,
It's nice and cool.

Our town! Come to our town...

Monsters

Most of my Class 3 pupils prefer drawing to writing, but they all enjoyed this activity which included both.

As a way of revising colours, numbers 1 - 20, and the parts of a head, I asked them to design a monster, draw and colour its head, describe the monster, think of a name and also write what their monster likes and how it feels.

HIPPO 2023

Three groups of my pupils took part in this year's Hippo Olympiad organised on 18 March in Đura Jakšić Primary School.

The exam consisted of two parts, reading and use of English which was, by default, a bit more challenging.

Favourite Colour

My younger pupils enjoy writing their versions of their favourite songs. Here's one where pupils ask their friends (Manja, Marina, Đole and Matija) what their favourite colour is:

Hey, (pupil's name)! What's your favourite colour? (2x)

My favourite colour isn't ...,
It isn't ... or ... .
My favourite colour!

Hey, (pupil's name)! What's your favourite colour? (2x)

My favourite colour, my favourite colour,
My favourite colour's ... .
That's great!

Favourite Seasons

Think about your favourite season. Describe it in 50-60 words,

Organise your writing in paragraphs. These questions might help you:

  • Which is your favourite season? Why do you like it?
  • What's the weather like then? What do you usually wear?
  • What do you like doing then? What's your favourite activity?
  • Where do you usually go? Who with?
  • Why is this season your favourite?

My favourite season is summer. It's hot and sunny.
I like going to the swimming pool with Staša and other friends. We play volleyball and handball. When we are done, we go to eat. At the swimming pool we eat donuts, French fries, slushy or ice cream.
I like going to the swimming pool because it's so much fun, and I like swimming.

Petra Milica Fazekaš, V1

My favourite season is summer. I like it because it's hot and sunny, and I can play with my friends.
In summer, I go to Greece with my family.
When I'm not in Greece, I play with my friends. I wear my T-shirt, flip-flops and shorts. I'm on a break from school, so I've got all day to play or go to the pool.
In summer it's sunny and beautiful.

Luka Baba, V2

My favourite season is summer. I love summer because that's when I have the most fun.
When it's sunny, we go on a boat ride and eat ice cream.
In summer people wear light clothes, like dresses, T-shirts or shorts.
My family and I go to a river called Tisa. That's where our boat is. I like flying kites with my sister and friends.
I can't wait for summer to come this year! My family is planning to go on a trip to Tunisia.

Nataša Đurin, V2

My favourite season is summer. Summer is very hot and sunny.
In the summer, I like eating ice cream, watermelons, strawberries and all other fruit.
My family and I go to the seaside. My friends and I go to the pool and we drink slushy.
I love visiting my grandparents in summer. My friends and I go outside to play hide and seek. I love spending time with my brother, too.
I usually wear my T-shirt or crop-top, shorts, skirt, dresses and flip-flops.
I love summer because we don't go to school and I have fun.

Petra Gačka, V2

My favourite season is summer.
In the summer, my family and I go to the beautiful island of Corfu, in Greece. We travel by plane.
In the hotel, we have a delicious breakfast. After that, we go to the beach.
I have flip-flops, a big hat, a swimsuit, and sunglasses.
We swim in the beautiful blue sea.
After that, at 12 o'clock, we have lunch, and at 1 o'clock, we go sailing on a boat.
In the sea, I find a squid, shells, beautiful colourful fish, corals, and sea stars.
At 7 o'clock, we go to the hotel and have dinner.
I like summer because of an exciting holiday. Summer is a lot of fun!

Peas

Singing songs is one of my young pupils' favourite activity, especially if the songs are catchy and repetitive, and make us feel good.

This is such a song:

The zebra likes sausages,
He doesn't like peas.
Some carrots and sausages,
For the zebra, please.

Peas, peas, lovely peas.
Someone come and eat them,
My lovely peas.

The hippo likes bananas,
She doesn't like peas.
Some apples and bananas,
For the hippo, please.

Peas, peas ...

The parrot likes sandwiches,
He doesn't like peas.
Some pizza and sandwiches,
For the parrot, please.

Peas, peas ...

Tommy's in the Kitchen

This is yet another song enjoyed by my younger pupils. It's great for revising the food vocabulary.

Tommy's in the kitchen,
Come and take him out!
Tommy's in the kitchen,
Come and take him out!

I've got an apple in my sandwich.
I've got milk on my peas.
I've got juice on my sausage.
Help! Oh, help me, please!

Tommy's in the kitchen,
Come and take him out!
Tommy's in the kitchen,
Come and take him out!

I've got carrots on my pizza.
And a banana on my cheese.
I've got chicken with my cake.
Help! Oh, help me, please!

Tommy's in the kitchen,
Come and take him out!
Tommy's in the kitchen,
Come and take him out!

At the Circus

Before saying goodbye to the first part of our books, we sang some of our favourite songs.

This is one of those catchy songs that younger pupils enjoy singing. It's great for learning or revising the names of animals.

Look at the spiders,
Look at the rats,
Look at the lizards,
Look at the cats!

Look at the elephants,
Look at the dogs,
Look at the ducks,
And look at the frogs!

Spiders, cats,
Lizards and rats.
Ducks, dogs,
Elephants and frogs.

Recipes

What's your favourite dish? Write your recipe.

  • What ingredients do we need?
  • What are the steps? Can you describe the method? Use the words like: add, bake, chop, boil, mix, cook, peel, pour, or fold.
  • How can we serve it? Hot or cold?
