The Seagull and the Cat

For my younger pupils, discovering friendship, responsibility, and care through stories was the reason behind joining The Seagull and the Cat eTwinning project, inspired by Luis SepĂșlveda’s book. This project brings together children aged 6–8 in a creative reading journey.

Our first activities included introductions, presurveys with the help of Class 6 girls, and logo design, followed by voting for the best logos.

As warm-up activities before reading the first chapters, I organised workshops.

Dimitrije taught his classmates how to fold paper boats, just as his grandma had shown him before. He took the role very seriously and guided each friend through the steps. When they finished, pupils proudly showed their paper boats to one another.

The children also drew our country's coat of arms.

In their teams, pupils coloured and cut the seagull parts, glued them on cardboard, and attached legs with thread. They also made the seagull mask, colouring and cutting the shapes before fixing a straw to hold it. In the same way, they created the cat mask—colouring, cutting, and gluing the pieces, then adding a straw. The girls imagined the cat was a girl, so they added long eyelashes and pink cheeks, and were surprised when I told them it was a boy. Pupils also prepared the cat figure, colouring and cutting the paper, gluing the parts together, and fixing missing paws with a little help from me.
