What a place!

Write about Kikinda or choose one of the places in Serbia. It can be a city, town or village.

  • Write an article to describe the chosen place. Use 100-120 words.
Organise your writing into 4 paragraphs:

Paragraph 1: What is its name? Where is it located? How many people live there?
Paragraph 2: What can tourists see there? What are its main landmarks? Why are they important?
Paragraph 3: What can tourists do there? What kind of entertainment is offered? Are there any special celebrations or festivals organised there?
Paragraph 4: Give your general opinion of this place. How do you feel about this place? What would you recommend?

  • Design a brochure for the place you know. It can be your hometown, or another town, city or village in Serbia.
    Include these headings:

How to Get There: Where is it located? How is it connected to the other places? How good is the public transport?
Places to See: What important sights can tourists visit? What places are worth visiting?
Things to Do: What interesting activities can tourists do? What can tourists do for entertainment?
Eating Out: Where can tourists try quality food?
Final Thought: Why is this place a must? Why should tourists visit it?

Walking around Europe

Since this activity was greatly enjoyed by my Class 2 pupils last year, I've decided to try it with my 8-year-olds this year as well.

First, each pupil chose a sticker with Talk to me message in a different language.

Then, they used a key to find which language it is and copy the name into their notebooks.

Their next task was to find the country where that language is spoken on one map and colour the country on another map.

Finally, they looked for, found and drew the country's flag.

A day in the life

As a way of practising writing everyday activities and telling the time, I've asked my Class 3 pupils to describe a day in the life of one of their parents, in 6 comic frames:

Dunja Bucalo
Anastasija
Vukašin

Languages Celebration 2022

On Monday, 26 September, during the 4th lesson, we organised a special event for the representatives of each class, divided into 6 teams of 4 generations and named after different colours, with Look who's singing! and General Knowledge quizzes.

Two girls read poems in Hungarian and Chinese, and three groups of Class 5 and Class 6 pupils sang a well-known nursery rhyme in French, English and German.

Our languages celebration is in the Council of Europe Event Calendar again, and voting for the most innovative event of the year is open until 20 October.

NQL 2022

Our eTwinning National Support Organisation has just awarded 284 projects with Quality Labels. This school year, however, one teacher could apply for the NQL with only four projects. I'm happy and proud to say that four projects I started and collaborated on with my pupils have received the Labels:

- Let’s walk around USA!: An excellent project with successful student collaboration in international teams. The students have widened their knowledge about an English speaking country, gaining language, communication and collaboration skills on the way. The teacher showed an excellent command of organising and mentoring mixed-age peer collaboration. Also, her personal contribution to organising, documenting and sharing interesting and useful material is notable. Materials produced and developed during the project can be used in future classes.

- If I were...Tom Sawyer!: A project well-integrated into more than one curricula. The students obviously enjoyed doing it and the teacher showed excellent mentoring and organisational skills. The dissemination is creative and the end results are sustainable and can be used for different school subjects in classes and for future projects.

- The Magical World of Beatrix Potter: The Magical World of Beatrix Potter is a frame within which the students of different ages, from 7 countries, worked together on developing their creativity, digital literacy, knowledge on internet safety, tolerance and other key competences, while making friends and having lots of fun.

- eTwinventors are on the stage: Doing research, solving problems and imagining the future - these are the key features of this project and what's most valuable about it. The teacher and the students did real collaborative work, created stories, e-books, dictionaries and had a lot of fun on the way. They learned a lot about inventors and their inventions by researching and discussing.

We've taken part in several other projects this school year, but I think that we've contributed the most to these four.
