European Day of Languages 2018

We celebrated this year's European Day of Languages ​​doing different activities. My younger students and I recorded video messages, wrote postcards to our eTwinning project partners, coloured flags from different European countries and learned how to say Hello in different languages.

 

We received so many lovely postcards from our dear friends from Germany, Greece, Romania and Portugal and their teachers Anita, Stella, Sofia, Daniela and Leonor. 

 

On Wednesday, 26 September, we organised a social event with the representatives of 7 schools, with quizzes "Look who's talking!", "How much do you know about Europe?" and "I wonder", music and biscuits. My class 3 students sang songs in English, a class 4 student read a Spanish poem, and class 7 and 8 students played the guitar and the flute. The programme ended with the performance of the young band Devils.

Our celebration is in the Council of Europe Event Calendar again, and voting for the most innovative event of the year is open until 20 October.

Roald Dahl Day

September is Roald Dahl's birth month, so I asked all eTwinners to join in the fun and celebrate it on 13 September! They shared their ideas in the padlet:

Magical World of Colours

One of the first tasks of the eTwinning project Magical World of Colours was to do some creative activities with yellow. My Class 5 students made yellow paper balloons and drew happy or sad faces, showing their feelings after a fortnight spent at school. Most of them also wore their yellow T-shirts on that day.

NQL 2018

This August, our National eTwinning service awarded 218 projects with Quality Labels. Four eTwinning projects I started and/or collaborated on won Quality Labels:

- World Book Day: The students were active in carrying out tasks, which contributed to the development of their knowledge and skills. It is positive that the teacher and students discussed the content set by the partners and had a competitive quiz.  

- Talking Second Graders: Project goals concerning the development of language skills, the importance of learning foreign languages, and communication and team work among students are in the most part accomplished. The project met the criteria set for the National Quality Label.

- Stories Behind Traditions: This is a good quality project. Students were active and contributed to the project implementation, gained knowledge of foreign traditions and improved knowledge of their own tradition, learned to collaborate with foreign students and to use digital tools for development of multimedia content.

World Book Day

In order to  encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and improve reading skills, I decided to become a partner of a teacher from Scotland on the eTwinning project celebrating authors, illustrators, books and reading. Since 20 February, 27 other teachers from Italy, Poland, Greece, UK, Slovenia, Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, Finland, Spain and Turkey have joined us with their students and shared different interesting activities.

Stories Behind Traditions

With a Romanian colleague, I started a project for 8-14-year-olds where they would share the information about their countries, hometowns, schools, culture and traditions. Since December, 13 other teachers from Italy, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Georgia and Portugal have joined the project and shared interesting videos, tasty recipes and lovely photos of their traditional costumes.

Class VI1 even had a Skype meeting with their peers from Lubny, Ukraine. Although we had some technical problems, they enjoyed it a lot:
