Christmas 2017

This year, we spent two lessons talking about Christmas celebrations.

We listened to some Christmas songs, learned a new one, revised some Christmas related words, watched the story about Gingerbread Man, did some drawing and colouring, made finger puppets with Christmas heroes and also designed Christmas cards for our friends from Slovenia, Spain, Poland, Finland and Greece.

A Scary Experience

Have you ever experienced anything scary? When did it happen? Describe what happened. 

It can be true/real or imaginary/made up. Use the words: First, Then, Next, After that, Suddenly, Finally...

The following might help you:
P1: Where were you? What was the day like? Who was with you?
P2: What were you doing when it happened? What did you do?
P3: What happened afterwards?
P4: What happened in the end?
P5: How did you feel?How did the others feel?

It was a dark and cold night. My mother was making dinner in the kitchen, I was watching TV in the living room, and my dad was outside in the garden.
It was almost dinner time, so my mum asked me to call dad. Then, I grabbed my torch and went outside. 
I shouted, but nobody answered. So, I went deeper into our garden. It was so dark that I couldn't see anything.
Then I heard some footsteps getting closer to me. After that, I heard a voice saying my name. I was so scared that I couldn't even move.
Then I tried to be bold and turn around. When I turned around I saw my dad. He was trying to tell me that it was time to go inside.
I was laughing all the way to our house, because I felt ridiculous.

Halloween

We talked about Halloween customs in different English-speaking countries, made a mind map, learned a new Trick-or-Treat song and finally drew our own Halloween masks.

School life in different countries

My students are very curious about the life of other children round the world. That is why I thought that joining this eTwinning project would be a good thing to do.

The task of the children aged 8 to 11 from Poland, France, Ukraine, Croatia and Serbia was to introduce themselves, show their everyday life at school, what their lessons or classrooms look like, how they spend their breaks, etc.

School of my dream

This October we joined another eTwinning project aimed at 8-10-year-olds.

The aims of the project are:
  • motivation for school work
  • to cognise the different surroundings of schools associated with this project
  • to exchange experiences
  • re-consolidation of friendship
  • intercultural communication
  • to develop intercultural competence
  • to improve at work with modern technologies
Children from France, Georgia, Turkey, Romania and Ukraine are taking part in this project and my Class II2 is the only project participant from Serbia.

Talking Second Graders

This September we joined an eTwinning project addressed to 7- and 8-year-olds who are learning English.

The aims of the project are:
• to develop students’ language skills
• to increase the awareness of learning foreign languages
• to give students an opportunity to communicate with their peers
Children from Finland, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Turkey take part in the project started by two teachers from Slovenia. My Class II2 is the only project participant from Serbia.

Outdoor games

My younger pupils like moving around, so this Thursday I decided to have our lesson outside. There was a lot of running and screaming but, at least, nobody minded.

We played different games, but Houses-Foxes-Earthquake and Rock-Paper-Scissors turned out to be the best. 

For the game Houses-Foxes-Earthquake, children make a circle, with pairs holding hands like a roof of a house and one child standing under the roof. When the child in the middle of the big circle calls out, 'Foxes', all 'foxes' change their houses and he/she can find their own house. When the child calls out, 'Houses', all 'houses' make a new house with another child. When the child calls out, 'Earthquake', everyone changes places/roles.

Rock-Paper-Scissors is a well-known game, but we played it in a slightly different way. The child who loses the game twice, stands behind the winner and cheers for them while they play another child.

European Day of Languages 2017

This year we've decided to celebrate the European Day of Languages in a slightly different way. With the exchange of postcards between my students and the children around Europe, and a video greeting my students made as part of an eTwinning project, pupils and teachers from several schools had the opportunity to emphasise the importance of learning foreign languages at the central event on 26 September in our Regional Centre for Professional Development.

The programme was filled with songs and music. There were also some interactive games for the audience who showed a good knowledge of Internet slang and European languages.

As usual, the activity is in the Council of Europe's Calendar of Innovative Events. Voting is open until 20 October.

EDL 2017

This September, we joined two eTwinning projects: European Day of Languages and Languages Unite, both aimed at showing the linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe. 

We prepared a short video, wrote and sent postcards (in English and Serbian) to the children from European countries, and also received lots of postcards from different parts of Europe (mostly in English, but also in other languages). I can't describe my students' excitement when we got the first postcards. They all read them with interest and couldn't wait for the others to arrive.

Being a Good Classmate

My youngest pupils from Class I2 took part in the national contest organised by Novi Logos and OUP and won the first prize for their creative work! 

The whole class can't wait to go on a surprise trip and get their backpacks with readers.

HIPPO 2017 Semi-finals

Two of my Class 5 students Marko and Luka took part in HIPPO 1 semi-finals in Zrenjanin on 1 April. They tried to do the reading and writing tests, including the essay on free time, the best they could but, since the level of difficulty of all the questions was one level higher than the one in the preliminary round, they did not make it to the finals.

Luka (Reading: 35 + Writing: 16 = 59 points)
Marko (Reading: 39 + Writing: 12 = 57 points)

Dear Ana,
I hope you're fine. What's the weather like in Paris? Here in Kikinda it's sunny, and we're all preparing for Easter.
At the moment, I'm with my mum in the kitchen. we're making a lot of tasty cakes. Dad is outside with my baby brothers. They're preparing meat for the barbecue for our family and friends. My baby sister Tijana is making decorations for Easter.

What's up? How are you and your family? What are you doing?
I'm at the beach. My family and I are having fun here. I love swimming. When we're at the beach, I swim because it's healthy. My sister is sunbathing. She hates swimming, but sometimes she is in the sea. My mum is reading a book, because she loves reading. My dad is drinking water.
Later, we're going to a restaurant to have lunch. When lunch is over, we usually have a nap.
In the evening, we go for a walk. Then, we go to the same restaurant and have dinner. That's it.

Hello, Saška,
How are you? I'm at the beach now. It's hot and sunny. I am sunbathing. My mum is swimming. My dad is buying ice cream. My sister is practising gymnastics on the hot sand. After her practice, she loves swimming and sunbathing. My brother is playing in the sand. After all the activities, we are going to eat ice cream.
 The beach is beautiful. There is a lot of sand with shells.
At about half past nine we usually go to a restaurant for dinner.

We're in Egypt and it's so hot here. Mum and dad are at the restaurant. My brother and I are having fun outside.
Later, we are going to swim in the pool that is just right outside the restaurant. Mum is going to drink coffee, while dad is going to watch TV.

Old MacDonald

 My younger pupils enjoy making sounds, so it's no wonder they liked the song about Old MacDonald and his farm animals. This time, I asked a few volunteers to illustrate the animals on the board.

Easter Picture 2017

This March, my 7-year-olds have participated in the 4th edition of the International Art  Contest called The Most Beautiful Easter Picture with English Wishes 2017. The contest is a part of the eTwinning project started by Polish teachers in 2014. 
The pupils' task was to draw an Easter card on A4 paper and write a short wish in English.
