The Best Gift of All

As a follow-up to our lessons on gadgets and past simple, I asked my Class 4 pupils to remember the best gift they'd ever received. They mentioned bikes, phones, rollerblades, dogs, and trips. 

Next, I drew a mind map on the board and asked them to list details they would add in their writing: when and who they got the gift from, its appearance, and why it was special. Then, we read a short text in our books about a bike they could use as a model for their writing. 

Finally, they wrote short paragraphs and volunteers read their work, sharing happy memories.

European Day of Languages 2023

 This year's European Day of Languages was a lot of fun for my pupils.

My younger classes chose different Talk to me! stickers and used the key to find out the name of the language used for the message. Then, they did a quick research, found out and wrote the name of the country and its capital city, and drew the country's flag. Finally, they showed the country on the map and read their findings. 

Class 4 pupils also found some interesting facts about the country, including the currency and landmarks.

Class 3 pupils took part in the video survey about the importance of learning foreign languages.

Class 6 pupils enjoyed various language quizzes and sharing their opinion about what learning a language is to them in articles.

My pet's name's Rex.
She has got black fur. She is a Labrador and she is good. Her legs are long.
I brush her every day and let her run. She likes dog food and lying on top of the dog house.
Her bark is very loud. When she sees a cat, she barks and likes barking at other dogs as well.

Summer holidays before Corona

Do you remember your summer holiday before Corona? Write about it. Use the game as an example. You can stick photos or draw pictures, too. 

In my summer holiday before this pandemic named Corona I went to the seaside in Greece with mom and stepfather. I stayed in a small place called Sarti.
We went to the beach every day. We went to some rocky part of the beach. Every day we watched Greek movies at the hotel where we stayed. Every day we ate pizza, gyros, bread with strawberry jam and seafood (fish and octopus). One day while we were still in Greece we sailed on a tourist boat. We were on a lot of other beaches like orange beach and blue coral. We were also on a beach that had black sand. When we had to go back, there were huge waves.
It was a lot of fun and interesting. I had a great time.

Two years ago I went to Greece, Parga. We stayed at a hotel for ten days.
The first day we were tired, so we didn't go to the beach. The next day we went to the beach and I swam in the sea. It was cold!
Next to the beach, there is a little city. There we tried traditional Greek food gyros. It's tasty!
All the days were the same. But one day was different. Then we went to a ship.

I spent my last summer before Corona with my family in Egypt. We were there for 15 days. We had a great time. We went swimming every day. We also went snorkeling and fishing. I went with my little brother to the aqua park in our hotel. We ate a lot of icecream and different fruits, but then my brother got sick and we spent our last two days in hospital. He was very sick and we were worried. After that we came back home in Serbia. At home I played with my friends. We rode bicycles and went to the swimming pool.

Walt Disney created Beauty and the Beast. It's a romantic story at first, but then Gaston comes in. He is a selfish man that has no respect at all. He tries to win Belle's heart, but no matter what he does, he can't win it. At some point of the film, Belle shows the mirror that the Beast gave her, and the whole town sees the Beast. Then, the town people lock Belle and go to kill the Beast.
Also, there are some magic cups, brooms, oven and other stuff.
Close to the end of the film, Gaston and the east fight. Gaston falls to his death and the Beast is very badly wounded. Just when Belle thinks that the  Beast is dead, he turns into a Prince and all the magic cups turn into humans again and they all live happily ever after.

Accidents

On 22nd November 2014, round half past eleven, there was an accident in Žarko Zrenjanin Street. 

A car driver was driving down the street, when he had to stop at the red light, but his brake pedal cancelled. The driver panicked and lost control of the vehicle which led to its crash into a tree.

The eyewitnesses who were walking by saw the accident and immediately came running to help the injured. After a few minutes, the ambulance arrived and took the car driver to the hospital. Unfortunately, the driver broke his right arm and hit his head. He is recovering in Kikinda's hospital.

Car accidents are scary, creepy, cost a lot of damage, and I hate when they happen to someone. Luckily, it hasn't happened to me, yet. 

My mum got her driving licence this autumn and I'm scared to drive with beginners. I've always wanted to drive a car. I love them, even though I'm a girl. But, after what I saw last year, I asked myself if I really wanted to be a driver.

My mum and I were walking home when we had to stop at the traffic lights, of course. They are usually at the crossroads. Suddenly, two cars crashed. One of them was nailed into the wall and another one was flattened. It looked like a piece of metal and not a real car. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it all happened in just one second. 

Luckily, no one got hurt, but what it looked like, I think that it was a miracle. Then, they called the police and everything was fine except the people that were in the cars. My mum and I were witnesses. I was angry because if people paid attention to the traffic and didn't act like they were the only ones in the world who drove cars, such accidents wouldn't happen so often.

Laura, age 10, was injured last Monday when a branch fell on her head. She was in the park when the accident happened.
The girl and her brother Tom were walking the dog in the park. After 30 minutes, it started raining. The weather was windy and it became colder. Laura's brother saw the lightning in the sky. Laura started to panic. Then, the lightning hit a tree, a branch broke and fell on Laura. Tom was trying to rescue his sister, but a branch was too big and heavy. He called an ambulance.
Now, Laura is recovering in hospital, because she broke her leg.

Favourite TV Series

My favourite TV series is 'Montevideo'. It is about a football team from Yugoslavia who travelled to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1930 to take part in the World Championship. In this TV series we follow them during their travel on a ship and their stay in Montevideo. We watch their matches and support them all the time. 

The series is on RTS 1 every Sunday at 8 p.m.

I recommend it because the story is really good and the actors are excellent.

My Favourite Sport

My favourite sport is football. For this sport you need to have football boots, pads, a jersey and a ball. Mostly boys play football, but some girls like to play it too.
The downside of football is that the injuries can be terrible. The good side is that it is a team game.
I like football, but I prefer watching it.

My favourite sport is ice-skating. For this sport you need skates and fancy clothes. I enjoy watching it on TV. 

The good sides of this sport are competitions where you can win a gold medal. The bad sides are the injuries. You can get hurt badly. This sport is also very expensive.

I'd like to train this sport but we haven't got an ice rink in Kikinda. And, I'm not five years old which is the best age to start training ice-skating.

It is a very dangerous sport, because you can hurt very easily. 

It's also very exciting, because it's a lot of fun to work in a team. It's challenging because if you mess up, you lose a point, not set. You compete all the time, so it's never boring. Teams sometimes travel to different countries where they compete with the others.I always try to be the best in my team.

For training you wear: shorts, T-shirts, shoes and pads.

My favourite superhero is the Invisible Woman. She is a member of the Fantastic Four. Her real name is Susan Storm. Together with her brother Johnny, scientist Reed Richards and friend Ben Grimm, Susan goes into space. There they get exposed to cosmic rays and get special powers. They become superheroes. Susan gets the power to make herself invisible.
She is my favourite superhero because she is brave and has the power to become invisible.

Festivals

Pumpkin Days

Every year in the second week of October, people in Kikinda, Serbia, celebrate the Pumpkin Days. The festival lasts four days.

A  lot of people come to see the contest for the largest pumpkin. They can also taste delicious pumpkin pies. Children dress up in costumes and put on masks and then walk in a parade around the town. 

In the centre of the town there is a small fair where children can buy sweets and toys. 

The festival is very big. Everyone can enjoy the music all day long.

I like Pumpkin Days because this festival is a lot of fun.

My favorite day of the week is Saturday.
On Saturdays I get up late because there is no school. After I perform personal hygiene, I eat breakfast and go to my training. After an hour and a half it's lunch time and I come home. Later I go out to play with my friends. I sometimes play with my best friend from grade Kosana or some friends from the street. When the weather's bad we play games on the computer, watch TV or surf the net.
At eight o'clock in the evening, I take a bath and go to bed late. After such a beautiful day I go to sleep late at night.

My favorite day of the week is Wednesday. I get up early in the morning. My mother makes me a sandwich for breakfast. At 7:30 I pack my bag for the gym. While I'm in the gym I hang out with my friends and have a little workout. At 8:30 I go back home. When I come home I first unpack my bag and then I take a shower. At 9:20 I study. At 10:30 I watch TV or play computer games. Soon after that I get ready for school. School starts at 1 o'clock, so I leave home at 12:30. I meet with my friends and we go to school together. At 12:45 we are at school waiting for our teacher. When school ends I need to hurry home to be at the sports centre. My swimming training starts at 7 p.m. Our coach Milan Bubulj is the best coach ever. He is nice and funny. First, we swim the distance of six kilometers and then make two teams and race. Tired, I leave training at 20:45. When I come back home my mother makes me a favorite snack. After that I watch TV or study some more if I need to. At 10 o'clock I go to bed.

I like Wednesday because I am busy all day long, and it passes swiftly.

I am there from 10 to 12 o'clock. After that I go to the library. I usually take three books. Then I go home and have lunch with my family. When we finish with a cake, I do my homework. After that I watch films on my computer and draw some pictures from it. At 6 o'clock I have my dinner. After that I go out and play with my friends. When it gets dark, I go home.

With his ninja brother Gobei (Robin Shou) he's sent to rescue a woman named Alison (Nicolette Sheridan). During the travel, Gobei disappears, but luckily Haru meets a new friend, Joe (Chris Rock).

'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' is a great fantasy film about a boy called Harry who is selected to go to Hogwarts School for witches and wizards. 

The main characters are: Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson). They discover some evil magic in school and fight against it.

What will happen to them? Watch the film and you'll learn.

My favourite film is 'Tom Sawyer'. It's a comedy film about a naughty and noisy boy. He is very funny too. 

The main characters are Tom, Huck and Becky. Tom has got a brother, Sidney, who treats him ugly. 

This film is full of adventure and action. 

Tom has got a beautiful imagination and wants to be a pirate.

When on a school trip in the cave, Tom and Becky find the treasure stolen by an Indian Joe, who starts chasing them.  

This is a great film for the whole family. Don't miss it!
